How to grow spoon-lipped orchid

How to grow spoon-lipped orchid

one. About the selection of maintenance environment for spoon lip orchid

The first point is to pay attention to cleanliness, especially the ground, to prevent the outbreak of insect diseases. In addition, the air humidity must be ensured. Although the spoon-lipped orchid cannot be exposed to the sun, it cannot be without light, so there are some requirements for the light for maintenance. It should be kept in a room with the back facing west and the front facing east, with open space in the east and south, and with relatively large trees on the west side of the back, or relatively high walls and other obstructions. The advantage of this location is that it not only blocks the scorching sun, but also allows the spoon-lipped orchid to get a little gentle sunlight.

two. About temperature control

Spoon-lipped orchid is more suitable for growing in a shaded, moist and ventilated environment, and is absolutely not suitable for a dry environment. Moreover, if the temperature is too low, it is not conducive to the growth of spoon-lipped orchid. The most suitable temperature should be above 15 degrees Celsius and below 30 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is very high, reaching over 35 degrees Celsius and is exposed to excessive sunlight, it will easily wither. If it's too cold, you will get frostbite.

three. About soil selection

Generally, sandy loam is chosen because it is rich in humus and must have good drainage capabilities. Mountain soil and leaf mold can also be chosen because they are also quite rich in humus. Weakly acidic loose soil or iron-containing soil with a pH value above 5.5 or below 6.5 can also be used.

Four. About the method of reproduction

Reproduction can be done in both spring and autumn, and division is normally carried out every three years. Basically, any plant with dense and sturdy pseudobulbs can be divided. After division, at least five pseudobulbs connected together should be retained. Before dividing the plants, be sure to water them less and let the soil dry out. After dividing the plants, when potting them up, cover the small holes at the bottom of the pots with tile fragments, and then spread some gravel on them. It should be about four or five times the depth of the pot, then add some coarse-grained soil and a little fine soil, and finally plant it in sandy loam.
