The difference between red tassel and powder puff flower

1. Different appearance

The name of the red tassel flower suggests that its flower is shaped like a scarlet tassel cap. When it blooms, it looks like a small red pompom. Its spherical inflorescence head is very gorgeous and feels slightly prickly to the touch. When the petals degenerate, the filaments become exposed, long and conspicuous. After the flower withers, a long and flat pod will grow next to it, which is very cute.

The powder puff flower is different from the red tassel flower. The plant is relatively short, mostly in the form of small shrubs, with feather-like leaves. However, the number of leaves is very small, only four to six, not as complex as the red tassel flower. The base of its filaments is white, numerous and slender, and there are not many small flowers on an inflorescence, so the flower ball does not look as dense and heavy as that of the red tassel flower.

2. Different growth habits

The red tassel flower grows in the tropics and prefers a warm, humid and sunny climate. It is not cold-resistant when kept in a warm environment for a long time. It grows better in well-drained, nutrient-rich acidic soil.

Powder puff flower is distributed in tropical, subtropical and temperate regions. Due to its distribution areas, its habits are more complicated than those of the red tassel flower which is only distributed in tropical areas. However, it also prefers places with sufficient sunlight, warm and humid environment, and loose and fertile sandy soil is preferred. It is not like the red tassel flower which can grow in acidic soil.

3. Different values

The powder puff flower has a very high ornamental value due to its gorgeous appearance, and the red tassel flower is not only beautiful in appearance and high in ornamental value, but also edible. It is non-toxic and has no side effects. Moreover, its root bark is rich in tannins. Eating tannins can aid digestion and treat symptoms such as loss of appetite and constipation. Not only that, the wood of the red tassel flower branches is hard and is often used by people to make farming tools. It is a material that is resistant to wear and corrosion.
