Cultivation methods and precautions of golden osmanthus

Cultivation methods and precautions of golden osmanthus

1. Breeding methods

1. Soil

If it is a potted plant, you can use rotten leaves mixed with garden soil and fine sand as the culture soil, and plant it on cloudy or rainy days in spring and autumn. After planting, place it in an area with good wind and water permeability, with sufficient light or diffuse light.

2. Temperature

If it is in the south, you can spend the cold winter outdoors. In other places, you should move it to a sunny place in the house in winter so that it can be directly exposed to sunlight. The temperature in the house should be above five degrees, but not more than ten degrees. Wait until it sprouts in the spring of the following year, then place it in a windless but sunny area outside the house, and then slowly move it to a windy area.

3. Watering

Water less before new branches grow out, and do not water on rainy days. Water more often in summer and autumn. If it is too humid when the flowers are growing in autumn, it will easily cause the flowers to wither. In rainy weather, pay attention to whether the accumulated water in the pot is drained out smoothly, otherwise the roots will rot over time.

4. Topdressing

After it sprouts in spring, feed it with fermented fertilizer water once every ten days or so. It must be diluted first, not too concentrated, so as to help the branches and buds grow. By July, you should use phosphorus fertilizer mainly to help it grow more flowers and make it more fragrant. If there is not enough phosphorus, not only will fewer flowers grow, but they will also smell bad.

5. Pruning

Its root system is relatively developed, and mature golden osmanthus will grow new branches every spring and autumn. To keep the branches and leaves dense, it needs to be pruned. This should be done once in autumn after the flowers have withered. Depending on its growth trend, cut off the too dense ones, and cut off the diseased and thin ones.

2. Precautions

1. If you don’t replace the pot and soil for a long time, it will not get enough nutrition and the roots will not be able to stretch out, which will affect the growth of the flower. So you need to change the pot every one to two years.

2. It does not like smoke and cannot be allowed to grow in places with unclean air, otherwise it will not grow well, its leaves will become smaller, and it will easily fall off. It will not grow flowers or the number will be very small.
