The difference between Calla Lily and Alocasia

1. Calla Lily

It also has another nickname, called Guanyin Lotus, and it belongs to the Araceae family. It can survive for many years as a perennial plant and can grow to about one hundred centimeters in height. It has a very large fleshy stem. The leaves are basal, very green, arrow-shaped, very large and spread out. The petiole is very thick, but compared to the calla lily, its leaves are smaller and smoother. Its flowers are flame-shaped, very white, and very large, very much like the shape of a horseshoe, hence the name. Its inflorescence is bright yellow, with male flowers on top and female flowers on the bottom.

2. Calla Lily

It is a plant of the Araceae family, can survive for many years and remain green all year round. It is a herbaceous plant that originates from the subtropics. It likes warm and watery areas, preferably semi-shaded environments. It is afraid of the cold. If it is planted in the area north of the Yangtze River Basin, it should be placed indoors before the cold winter comes. It can generally grow more than 2 meters tall, with a very thick, round, and fleshy stem. The leaves are very large and arrow-shaped. The veins on the leaves are very prominent and the color is lighter than that of the leaf flesh. The petioles are very long and strong. The flowers are yellow-green and their shape resembles that of a spathe.

3. Difference

1. Shape

The petals of the former surround the pistil, shaped like a cup. The top of the petals is bent in the opposite direction of the stamens. The petals of the latter are like an eagle's beak, and the top of the petals are curved along the stamens.

2. Stamens

The stamens of the latter are much thicker than those of the former. After the flowers of the latter wither, they will grow red fruits that look like corn cobs, while the former will find it difficult to bear fruit.
