How to cultivate taro

1. Soil:

It has a strong demand for fertilizer, so when planting, you should choose fertile, loose, breathable and well-drained soil.

2. Fertilization:

When applying fertilizer, the main focus is on applying base fertilizer, and the amount of base fertilizer applied can be determined according to the fertility of the soil. During the vigorous growth stage, top dressing can be applied every 2-3 weeks, and phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer should be applied.

3. Temperature:

Kaempferia solani likes warmth and has poor frost resistance. It grows better in the temperature range of 14-26℃. The wintering temperature should not be lower than -5℃ to avoid frostbite on the plant.

4. Lighting:

Kaempferia foetida prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight, but is also shade-tolerant. It should receive at least 4 hours of sunlight a day, which will help accelerate its growth.

5. Pest and disease control:

1. Diseases: Common diseases include stem rot. Stem rot can cause the wood to turn brown and necrotize, and the leaves and petioles to turn yellow and wither. In severe cases, it can lead to the death of the plant. You can spray 500 times diluted thiophanate-methyl, 500 times diluted 40% ethylene aluminum phosphate, or 500 times diluted thiram for prevention and control.

2. Pests: Common pests include willow bat moth and raspberry borer moth. They gnaw on the phloem outside the boreholes, causing the affected branches to break easily and dry up and die. During the leaf expansion period in early spring, you can spray 1000 times diluted 80% DDT or 3000 times diluted 2.5% cypermethrin to kill the larvae and prevent pests.
