Succulent cultivation methods and precautions

Succulent cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

It is best to use soil with high permeability and high humus and nutrient content when growing succulents. Specifically, coarse-grained perlite, Northeast pine needle soil and slag can be evenly mixed in a ratio of 5:3:1 and used for succulent cultivation.

2. Lighting

Although the light requirements of succulents vary depending on their species, they generally prefer growing conditions with sufficient light. They need to be given sufficient light during the growing season, shaded in the summer, and exposed to more sunlight in the winter.

3. Watering

Succulent plants have a high water content and can generally survive without much watering. However, too much watering will cause their roots to rot, so wait until the soil is dry before watering.

4. Temperature

The optimum growth temperature for succulents is 15-28℃. It cannot be lower than 5℃ in winter and cannot be higher than 35℃ in summer. The tolerance limit mentioned here is under normal circumstances, and it does not mean that the tolerance limit of all succulent species is within this range, so it is best to keep them at 15-28℃.

5. Notes

1. Apply fertilizer in time. The growth of succulents is inseparable from the absorption of nutrients, and to supply nutrients it is necessary to apply fertilizers in time. Fertilizers need to be diluted before topdressing to avoid burning the plants.

2. Prevent diseases and pests. Even if the succulent has no signs of illness, we still need to spray it with some medicine to prevent it from getting sick. Mainly use carbendazim and imidacloprid solution, the concentration should not be too high, and it can be used once every two months.
