How to identify Rehmannia root

1. Appearance

Rehmannia glutinosa is a perennial herb, about 10-30 cm tall, covered with grayish-white glandular hairs and long soft hairs. The rhizome is fleshy and yellow when fresh, and the stems are purple-red.

2. Blades

The leaves of Rehmannia glutinosa are usually in a rosette shape at the base of the stem, and are strongly reduced to bracts upwards, or gradually reduced and arranged alternately on the stem. The leaves are ovate to oblong. The top is green, the bottom is a little purple or purple-red, and the edges have serrations or teeth.

3. Flowers

Rehmannia flowers are arranged in racemes at the top of the stem, or grow solitarily in the leaf axils and scattered on the stem. The tip is slightly concave or blunt, the inside is yellow-purple, the outside is purple-red, and both sides are covered with long soft hairs.

4. Fruit

Rehmannia glutinosa is a capsule, which is ovate to oblong ovate, about 1-1.5 cm long.
