How to Identify Centella Asiatica

1. Blades

The leaves of Centella asiatica are kidney-shaped, round or horseshoe-shaped, green in color, with blunt serrations on the edges, a broad heart-shaped base, pubescent on the back or glabrous on both sides, and a petiole about 1.5-27 cm long, with a little pubescence or no hair on the upper part.

2. Flowers

Centella asiatica has an umbel inflorescence that is clustered in the leaf axils. There are usually 2, rarely 3, bracts that are ovate. There are 3-4 flowers under each umbel, which are capitate, with oval petals and purple-red or milky white color.

3. Fruit

The fruit of Centella asiatica is spherical, with a heart-shaped base that then becomes truncated, flattened on both sides, and several longitudinal ridges on each side. There are obvious small transverse veins between the ridges, which are reticular, and the surface is smooth or hairy. The flowering and fruiting period is from April to October.
