How and when to plant carrots

How and when to plant carrots

1. Planting time

The carrot planting time is divided into two crops, mainly in summer, that is, sowing the seeds in July and August, so that they can be harvested in November. In response to market demand, there are now varieties that can be sown in spring. The earliest time should be February or March. If the temperature in the open field is low at this time, you can choose mid-to-late March to early April. If you sow too early, the time of bolting will be advanced accordingly. If you sow too late, waterlogging is likely to occur.

2. Planting Technology

1. It is suitable for growing in loam with deep soil layer and good drainage. For clay soil, it is necessary to ensure good and unobstructed drainage, which determines whether the cultivation is successful. Deep plowing of the land is necessary, and base fertilizer is applied to ensure nutrition. Decomposed organic fertilizer can be used.

2. Select suitable seeds and soak them in 37°C warm water before sowing. Wait for 12-16 hours before taking them out and placing them in a cool place to dry. This will facilitate germination later.

3. Before sowing, rake the soil several times to ensure that the surface is flat, sprinkle the seeds on it, and cover it with a 1.5cm layer of soil. In order to ensure uniform sowing, you can add sand.

4. After sowing, apply enough water to ensure that the soil is moist so that the seeds are full of vitality. They are slow to emerge and weeds often emerge first, so pesticides need to be sprayed to remove the weeds.
