Industrial pepper planting technology and management

Industrial pepper planting technology and management

Industrial peppers are a type of pepper with a very high content of capsaicin, which is bred and cultivated from some of the hottest pepper varieties in the world. Although it is not edible, it has many uses in industry. In recent years, due to its high price and great demand, it has been planted on a large scale in some parts of our country.

1. Seedbed selection

Generally, you can choose a fertile plot that is sheltered from the wind, facing the sun, has a flat terrain, is easy to irrigate, has deep and fertile soil, good permeability, high organic matter content, and has not been used to grow tomatoes, eggplants , potatoes and peppers before.

2. Seed soaking and germination

Pre-soak the seeds for 1 hour, rub off the mucus on the seed surface, then soak them in 55℃ warm water for 30 minutes, and soak them in clean water for another 2 hours to remove inferior seeds. Then soak them in 1500 times enzyme solution for 20 minutes, wash with warm water, drain and spread on a towel, place in a 28-30℃ incubator for germination, and sow when the germination rate reaches 80%.

3. Sowing and seedling raising

(1) Sowing time: Use a greenhouse inside a small arch shed to grow seedlings, usually in mid-January. When the minimum temperature in the greenhouse stably reaches 12℃, you can start sowing.

(2) Seeding amount: Sow at a rate of 8 grams of seeds per 667 m2. Considering the need for seedling replacement, the rate can be increased by 10% to ensure sufficient seeds are available.

(3) Sowing: Sow the seeds evenly on the bed surface or in the seedling tray. For seedling tray matrix seedling cultivation, place the matrix tray in the greenhouse, spray water thoroughly, then use your finger to poke a small hole of 0.3-0.5 cm on the seedling tray, place a seed in a small hole, then cover it with sterile soil, and then spray it wet with a sprayer.

4. Field management

Field management is the key to the growth of industrial peppers , which specifically includes irrigation, fertilization and weeding. Simply put, the soil needs to be kept moist, especially during the peak growth period and when the fruit is swelling, but be careful not to over-wet it to avoid damaging the roots. Fertilization should be adjusted according to the stage and soil fertility. Heavy nitrogen fertilizer should be used in the early stage to promote growth, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be added in the later stage to improve yield and quality. Intertillage and weeding optimize the soil and facilitate plant growth.

5. Pest and disease control

Bacterial, fungal and viral diseases can be solved by using Quanhu fungicide combined with pure enzymes. Pests include aphids, leafminers, etc. Among them, aphids can be controlled by spraying 2000-3000 times of 10% imidacloprid or 2.5% cypermethrin emulsifiable wettable powder ; leafminers can be controlled by spraying 1500-2000 times of 20% leafminer.

In general, the prospects for growing industrial peppers are still very good. The yield is similar to that of ordinary peppers, but because of its high spiciness, it is used to extract capsaicin. One acre of peppers is equivalent to more than ten acres of ordinary peppers, which has good economic benefits.
