How often should orchids be watered and how should they be watered?

Orchid is an elegant flower with strong ornamental value, and many people have raised it. However, orchids have high requirements for environmental humidity and temperature, so watering becomes an important part of orchid care. So how often should you water orchids and how should you water them? Let’s learn more about it below.

How often should you water your orchid?

1. Spring and Summer

These two seasons are the peak growth season for orchids, and they usually need to be watered every 2 to 3 days to keep the soil moist but not too wet. In summer, due to the high temperature and rapid evaporation of water, you may need to water the plants once a day, or even once in the morning and evening.

2. Autumn

As the temperature drops, the growth rate of orchids slows down and the frequency of watering should be reduced accordingly, watering once every 3 to 4 days.

3. Winter

When orchids enter a dormant period, their water requirements decrease. Generally, they should be watered once every 7 to 10 days, keeping the soil in the pot slightly dry.

How to water orchids?

1. Watering principles

When growing orchids, do not water them too frequently, otherwise water will accumulate in the pot and the roots of the orchids will rot. Therefore, the correct way to water orchids is to wait until the soil is completely dry before watering. If it is the rainy season, pay attention to timely drainage.

2. Watering time

The best time to water is in the morning or evening, when the temperature is just right and conducive to water absorption and evaporation.

3. Water quality and temperature

It is best to use clean, slightly acidic water, and tap water should be left for 24 hours to remove chlorine and other harmful substances. When watering, the water temperature should be close to room temperature to reduce stimulation to the orchid roots.

4. Watering method

(1) Watering tools : It is recommended to use a narrow-mouthed spray bottle or a long-mouthed watering can, which can accurately control the water flow and avoid unnecessary damage to the orchid.

(2) Watering operations: specifically divided into three types: irrigation, sprinkling and spraying. Watering means putting the orchid pot into a large bucket and letting the water slowly penetrate, so that the watering will be more even; sprinkling means using a spray bottle to spray the entire orchid pot, which can effectively water the soil; spraying means using a sprayer to spray water mist, which is mainly used to increase the humidity of the air.

In general, in daily orchid care, you should pay attention to controlling soil moisture and watering scientifically and reasonably to provide a good growth environment for the healthy growth of orchids, while also preventing damage to the orchid's roots.
