Planting method and maintenance of fortune tree

The money tree has become a favorite indoor ornamental plant for many people with its lush green leaves and symbolic meaning of wealth. It not only adds vitality to the home environment, but also brings a touch of fresh green. Let’s learn about the planting and maintenance methods of the money tree.

1. Fertilization

Spring and summer: May and June are the peak growth periods for the money tree. It is recommended to apply liquid fertilizer mainly containing nitrogen every 20 days or so. Due to the high temperature in summer, plant growth slows down, so the use of nitrogen fertilizer should be reduced and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied instead. During the high temperatures of summer (temperatures over 30°C), fertilization should be stopped.

Autumn: Autumn is a good time to apply fertilizer. You can choose to apply a balanced compound fertilizer , and apply it every 20 days or so.

Winter: Fertilization should be stopped in winter as the plant enters a dormant period. However, before winter, you can apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers once to help the plants survive the winter safely.

2. Watering

Spring and Autumn: The money tree grows vigorously in spring and autumn, and it is recommended to water it every 3-4 days.

Summer: In summer, the money tree enters a dormant period and its demand for water decreases, but due to high temperatures, evaporation occurs quickly, so watering needs to be increased in time according to the dryness and wetness of the soil.

Winter: The temperature is low in winter and the plants grow slowly, so you should reduce watering and keep the soil slightly moist.

3. Lighting

The money tree likes plenty of sunlight, but can also tolerate a little shade. Avoid placing it in complete darkness for long periods of time, as this will cause the plant to grow poorly. At the same time, proper shade should be provided in summer to prevent sunburn from strong sunlight.

4. Soil

It is recommended to mix 5 parts garden soil, 3 parts leaf mold and 2 parts coarse sand to prepare the soil. A small amount of decomposed organic fertilizer can be added to the bottom of the pot as base fertilizer. This soil configuration is loose and fertile, with good air permeability and drainage, which is conducive to the healthy growth of the root system.

5. Pruning

Regular pruning is necessary during the growth period of the money tree. Timely removal of yellow, diseased and withered branches and leaves, and appropriate thinning of dense branches and leaves will help reduce unnecessary consumption of nutrients and promote healthy growth of plants.

6. Keep warm

If the temperature is below 10℃ in winter, you need to take warming measures to prevent the leaves from turning yellow.

The above is the planting method and maintenance points of the money tree. The money tree is actually a relatively easy potted plant to grow, and you can maintain it according to its specific growth conditions.
