How to grow artichokes

How to grow artichokes

1. Soil

Artichokes grow best in loose, fertile, well-drained clay soil. During the cultivation period, you can add some leaf mold and some base fertilizer to mix it into its nutrient soil.

2. Lighting

It likes light, and full light is more conducive to its growth. It is suitable to be planted in an open, bright, well-ventilated place.

3. Temperature

It is suitable for cultivation in places with warm winters and cool summers. The most suitable growth temperature for it is 13-17℃, and it will stop growing below 4℃. During the high temperatures in summer, cooling measures need to be taken to avoid affecting its normal growth. In winter, you need to take good warming measures to prevent it from stopping growing.

4. Watering

It is afraid of drought, but not waterlogging. When watering, you must control the amount of water and avoid water accumulation to prevent root rot. During the bud formation period, the water consumption is relatively high, so the amount of watering needs to be increased. In summer, spring and autumn, it is generally sufficient to water the plants every 2-3 days, and in winter, water the plants about once every 5 days.

5. Fertilization

It consumes a lot of nutrients during the growth period, so it needs to be fertilized and supplemented with nutrients. Generally, it is sufficient to apply fertilizer once a month. Fertilizers can be nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizers, or farmyard manure. After fertilizing, watering is required immediately, mainly to dilute the fertilizer and avoid fertilizer damage.
