What fertilizer should be used for camellia? What should I do if I fertilize camellia too much?

1. Fertilizer selection

The fertilizer applied to camellia is generally determined by the timing of fertilization. When potting or repotting, it is usually necessary to apply base fertilizer. Generally, organic fertilizer or compound fertilizer is used, which can continuously provide comprehensive nutrients. During the budding period in spring, thin fertilizer water is generally used, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are applied in summer, and liquid fertilizers are used in autumn and winter. In addition, in order to provide an acidic environment, alum fertilizer can be applied to the water on a regular basis.

2. Fertilization interval

The intervals for fertilization are different in different seasons. Typically in spring, fertilizer should be applied every 17 days. In summer, due to the high temperature, the growth of plants is relatively slow, so the interval between fertilization can be extended. In autumn and winter, during the plant's flower bud differentiation period, fertilizer is generally applied every week. But as the temperature drops, the plants stop growing and fertilizing needs to be stopped.

3. How to fertilize

The method of fertilizing camellia varies depending on the type of fertilizer. If solid fertilizer is applied, granular fertilizer is generally used. This type of fertilizer needs to be buried in the soil, keeping away from the roots. Do not water immediately after fertilizing. It is usually better to water after one day, which will help absorption. If it is liquid fertilizer, it is generally used directly to irrigate the roots. Foliar fertilizer should be sprayed on the leaves.

4. What to do if you give too much

Excessive fertilization will cause fertilizer damage, and in severe cases it may burn the roots and affect the growth of the plant. Therefore, if too much fertilizer is applied, you need to rinse the potting soil with clean water immediately to wash away the remaining fertilizer. If the concentrated fertilizer has burned the roots, you will need to remove the plant from the pot, inspect and trim off the damaged areas, and place it in a cool place to dry. Then prepare new pots and soil and replant it.
