Geranium cultivation methods and precautions

Geranium cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil Preparation

When growing geraniums at home, they are usually grown in potted plants, so the soil needs to be prepared well. In order to ensure the needs of growth, the soil must meet the conditions of looseness, breathability, nutrition, etc. If the soil is not suitable, it will be too sticky and compacted, which will cause difficulties in the roots breathing and affect normal growth. You can choose to mix peat soil, perlite and humus soil at home, and disinfect and sterilize them after preparation.

2. Proper watering

Geranium has a relatively strong drought resistance and requires very little water. Not watering for a period of time will not affect the plant, but long-term drought will cause the leaves to turn yellow. Keep the soil moist during the peak growing season in spring and autumn, and reduce watering from late autumn to winter to keep it relatively dry.

3. Reasonable fertilization

Fertilizers need to be added in time during breeding. Fertilizers should be applied once every ten days to half a month during the vigorous growth period. Before flowering, a little phosphorus and potassium fertilizers can be added.

4. Plenty of Sunlight

This plant likes light very much. If it is kept in a cool and dark environment for a long time, it will grow too tall and may lead to weak growth, so it should be kept in a place with good light. The midday sun is strong in summer and needs to be blocked with a sunshade net.

5. Notes

Geraniums prefer a warm growing environment and are generally suitable for growing around 15-25 degrees Celsius. They cannot withstand the cold in winter, so the temperature must be controlled at least above 5 degrees Celsius.
