1. Papaya Begonia

Papaya crabapple is a very shade-tolerant and cold-resistant variety, suitable for planting in northern courtyards. It blooms every spring with bright colors and large quantities of flowers, and has extremely high ornamental value during the flowering period. It consumes a lot of nutrients during its growth period. In order to promote vigorous growth, it is recommended to apply appropriate fertilizer to ensure sufficient nutrients.

2. Alum root

Alumroot is a perennial herbaceous flower that is extremely cold-resistant and can be cultivated in the Northeast region. It usually blooms between April and September. The flowers are small and beautiful, like a string of small bells, so it is also called coral bells. In addition, its leaves will change color according to the environment and seasons, and have high ornamental value.

3. Spiraea

Spiraea is a cold-resistant shrub. Although it likes light, it also has a certain degree of shade tolerance. It has a strong ability to adapt to the environment and mostly grows in open grasslands and ravines. If you want to plant it in the garden, it is best to use fertile, deep soil so that it will grow more vigorously.

4. Peony

The peony is very cold-resistant but not heat-resistant and prefers a semi-shady environment. It goes dormant during the high temperature period of summer every year. Its main feature is the flower, which looks like an upside-down turtle. It has bright colors and high ornamental value. It blooms every spring from April to June.

5. Four-leafed lily

The temperature requirement of the four-o'clock plant during its growth period is not high. It can withstand temperatures as low as minus 28°C and has a certain degree of shade tolerance. It can safely overwinter in most areas. It blooms in May and June every year, and the flowers are mostly white.

6. Other plants

There are many kinds of cold-resistant and shade-tolerant garden plants. In addition to the five mentioned above, there are also dodder, colorful taro, begonia, barberry, hosta, bauhinia, etc.
