How to breed firecracker bamboo (firecracker bamboo)

How to breed firecracker bamboo (firecracker bamboo)

Cutting propagation method of firecracker bamboo

Cutting time

If you choose late spring or early autumn, choose branches grown that year for cuttings; if you choose early spring, choose old branches grown last year.

Cutting medium

When doing cutting work at home, you can choose the cutting medium that has been prepared after disinfection; you can also use medium-coarse river sand that has been rinsed with clean water. Do not use sea sand or river sand from saline-alkali areas as it is not conducive to the normal development of firecrackers.

Cuttings and pruning

After the time and branch selection are determined, cut the strong part of the selected branch into sections of about 5-15 cm, retaining at least 3 leaf nodes. During the cutting process, you should pay attention to the fact that the upper cut is about 1 cm above the top leaf node, and the lower cut is about 0.5 cm below the bottom leaf node. Cut at an angle and use a sharp knife to ensure that the cut is smooth.

Management after cutting

temperature

The temperature suitable for the growth of cuttings is about 20-30℃. Below 20℃ will inhibit the normal rooting of the cuttings; above 30℃, the two cut ends of the cuttings will easily be infected by bacteria and cause rot, and the degree of rot will increase with rising temperature.

If the ambient temperature is low during cuttings, you can solve the problem by wrapping the flower pot or container with a film; if the temperature is high, take cooling measures by shading the cuttings, and the shading should preferably reach 50-80%.

humidity

Maintaining a relative humidity of 75-85% around the cuttings is conducive to growth.

Before the cuttings take root, it is important to keep them fresh and tender so that they can fully photosynthesize and accumulate the nutrients needed for rooting.

However, the unrooted cuttings at this time find it difficult to absorb moisture to maintain normal growth, so the cuttings must be sprayed, generally 3-5 times a day. Of course, the higher the temperature, the more times you spray. In rainy weather, you can choose to spray less or not at all. Be careful not to spray excessively, otherwise the cuttings will easily be infected with bacteria and rot because there are too many types of bacteria in the water.

illumination

Cutting propagation also requires sufficient light, and photosynthesis is the main process to provide the necessary nutrients for the growth of all aspects of the cuttings.

However, stronger light will also increase the temperature inside the cuttings, making the transpiration of the cuttings equally vigorous, increasing consumption and affecting their normal development.

Therefore, shading (50-80%) after cuttings is also very necessary. After the normal root system grows, the shading material can be removed. On a sunny day, it is removed around 4 pm and covered again before 9 am the next day.

The propagation method of firecracker bamboo by layering

The layering should also be done on strong branches. When peeling the bark, choose about 15-30 cm below the top. After peeling, a wound about one centimeter wide will be created, and the depth should be just enough to peel off the epidermis.

Cut a piece of film 10-20 cm long and 5-8 cm wide, put the wet garden soil on it, and then carefully wrap the peeled part, tie the upper and lower ends of the film tightly to make the middle bulge.

The cuttings will take root after about 4-6 weeks, and then the roots around the branches will be cut off, and a new plant will be formed.
