How to propagate thyme

Three ways to propagate thyme

sowing

The time for sowing and raising seedlings should be chosen in spring from March to April.

Thyme seeds are small, so when raising seedlings, the soil should be finely prepared, and the soil should be broken up and flattened as much as possible. The soil should be compacted with moderate force, and then sown after watering. Then, a layer of fine soil should be covered on the sown seeds, and finally plastic film should be used to help keep warm and moist.

Seedlings will emerge in about 10-12 days, and the film can be removed when the temperature is suitable. If weeds are found at the roots during the seedling stage, they should be removed in time and the soil should be kept moist.

Cuttings

The survival rate of the cutting method is very high and the plants are very easy to root.

You can cut about 5 cm long cuttings with terminal buds for cuttings, and choose lignified branches and branches without terminal buds for cuttings. After they survive, they will root slowly and have sparse roots.

It is better to carry out cuttings in paper tube seedling trays with a diameter of about 2 cm, which is more conducive to transplantation after survival.

Division

The division method requires selecting plants that are three years old or older.

The time is chosen in late March or early April when the seeds have not yet sprouted.

The specific method is to dig out the mother plant with its roots, divide it into 4-6 parts depending on the actual size of the plant cluster, and make sure to leave 4-5 buds in each part, then you can start planting.
