Why don't plum blossoms bloom?

The differentiation of plum blossom buds is divided into two stages: physiological differentiation and morphological differentiation.

The new shoots of plum blossoms generally stop growing in May and June. The branches stop growing early and flower buds differentiate early.

Physiological differentiation begins 15-20 days after the new shoots stop growing. During this stage, the protoplasm of the growth point is in an unstable state and is highly sensitive to internal and external factors. It is a critical period for controlling flower bud differentiation.

After physiological differentiation is completed, the morphological differentiation stage begins. Generally speaking, physiological differentiation takes about 70 days from June to August, and morphological differentiation takes about 40 days from August to September.

The reason why plum blossoms do not bloom

There are two main reasons why plum blossoms do not bloom:

First, the new shoots stop growing late, affecting the differentiation of flower buds.

Second, premature leaf fall reduces the accumulation of nutrients.

How to Make Plum Blossom Bloom Every Year

1. Choose a location with plenty of sunlight and good drainage for planting.

2. Apply fertilizer reasonably. Nitrogen fertilizer should not be applied in excess. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied in combination. It is reported that applying fertilizer once during the physiological differentiation of flower buds is more effective than applying it in batches at other times.

3. In early May, if the new shoots have not stopped growing, pinch the tips of the new shoots with your hands to wilt them, artificially control the growth of the new shoots, and force the differentiation of flower buds.

4. Moderately controlling water in the short term before the physiological differentiation of flower buds is beneficial to the accumulation of photosynthesis and flower bud differentiation.

5. The overgrown branches, summer shoots and autumn shoots are not easy to bloom, so they should all be cut off to reduce nutrient consumption.

6. Apply fertilizer and water reasonably to delay leaf fall, enhance the function of leaves and promote flower bud differentiation.
