prune

When the new buds reach 15cm in height, the top buds need to be removed, and only 6-8cm in height should be retained. Repeat this several times to make the crown full and beautiful.

After the plant is formed, it will continue to grow. At this time, we need to keep the plant in a beautiful shape and prune it. The branch sprouting ability of sweet olive is very strong, so it needs to be pruned frequently to maintain the beautiful tree shape.

Watering

1. Sweet olive likes a humid environment, so the soil in its pot should be kept moist. Too dry will cause it to dry up and die; too much water will cause the roots of the sweet olive to rot and stop growing.

2. The cultivation of sweet olive requires watering in moderation. Controlling water before bud formation will help the differentiation of flower buds. After bud formation, keep the soil in the pot moist but not waterlogged.

3. Water once in the morning and evening in summer and autumn. Water every day or every other day in spring. The amount of watering can be reduced appropriately in winter. It is most appropriate to water once a month. In addition, during the rainy season or plum rain weather, stop watering to prevent the roots of the sweet olive from rotting.

Fertilization

1. When turning the soil or repotting the sweet olive, an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer should be added to the potting soil.

2. Apply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer once every half a month or so during the growing season. If only phosphorus fertilizer is applied, the leaves will become soil-infertile and buds will not form. Apply thin cake fertilizer every 3-4 weeks during the growing season.

3. In spring, spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution on the leaves once a month, and the rest can be poured on the roots to promote the differentiation of flower buds.

4. To prevent frost damage, fertilizer is generally not applied in autumn. In winter, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and compound organic fertilizers can be applied once according to the different growth conditions and growth periods of the sweet olive.

temperature

The suitable growth temperature for sweet olive is 20℃-32℃. If the outdoor temperature is lower than 8℃, it should be placed indoors for maintenance. Too low room temperature will affect the growth of the plant, and if it is lower than 0℃, it will be frozen to death.

illumination

Osmanthus fragrans prefers warm and sunny places, so sufficient sunlight can make it grow lush and colorful. If the sweet olive is in bloom, you need to place it on a balcony separated by a window, away from the window, and wait until the flowers fade before placing it in the sun.

The growth of sweet olive in the shade will be poor, resulting in a weaker fragrance, lighter color or no blooming. It should also be placed in a sunny place when brought indoors in winter.

Repotting

The potted sweet olive should be repotted every 2-3 years. The best time is autumn and late spring. It is not advisable to repot in winter.

Determine the size of the pot according to the size of the branches and stems of the sweet olive.

When repotting, you can combine root pruning and soil changing, prune the root system appropriately, retain about 30% of the old potting soil when removing the pot, and then move it into the new pot to ensure the normal growth of the plant during the repotting process, cut off rotten roots and some old roots, and handle it according to the potting process.

The editor has explained the cultivation method of Osmanthus fragrans to you. I believe that everyone has a certain understanding of the cultivation method of Osmanthus fragrans in pots, so hurry up and cultivate a Osmanthus fragrans of your own~
