How to Care for Begonia

How to Care for Begonia

Best time for breeding

Begonia is sown between July of the current year and January of the following year, and can bloom from October to May of the following year. If sown in February to April, it will bloom in June and July.

Best growing soil

The best soil for growing begonias is a mixture of river sand, leaf mold, etc. It prefers a semi-shaded environment, so it should be moved indoors in summer to prevent it from withering and turning yellow due to strong light.

Growth humidity

Begonia prefers a warm and humid climate. Therefore, the soil in the pot should be kept relatively moist during cultivation, and not too much water should be given when watering, otherwise it will cause root rot; if the soil in the pot is too dry, it will also cause the leaves to wither and turn yellow. The soil in the pot only needs to be slightly moist.

Growth temperature

The suitable growth temperature for Begonia is 15-20℃. At this temperature, it can germinate normally, and the germination days are about 2 weeks. In summer and winter, due to the influence of temperature, growth will become slow, so fertilization and watering need to be increased.

In the high temperature environment in summer, certain measures need to be taken to prevent direct exposure to light, lower the surrounding temperature, and create a good environment below 30°C for breeding and maintenance.

Grow Light

In the hot summer season, be sure not to expose the begonia to strong light, as this will cause sunburn.
