How to collect seeds and overwinter Begonia

How to collect seeds and overwinter Begonia

Harvesting Methods of Begonia Varieties

The main maturity period of Begonia seeds is from May to June every year. Because the maturity period is different, the seeds need to be harvested in batches. After flowering, the capsule is green when it first grows, and it is ripe when its color changes to brown.

The time for harvesting is now, and it must be harvested quickly, otherwise the capsule will naturally crack and the seeds will fall out of the capsule, and there will be no way to get the seeds.

Therefore, when it becomes too wet and turns brown, it needs to be harvested immediately. Tear open the fruit wings and the seeds will fall out. After drying, they can be stored in a dry place.

How to Overwinter Begonia

Before entering the room

Before bringing begonias indoors, they should be properly exposed to the low temperatures in autumn so that they can adapt to and improve their disease and cold resistance. The amount of watering should also be gradually reduced at this time, and artificial intervention should be used to force the plants into a dormant state.

After entering the room

After entering the world, you should often spray water mist on the leaves of the plants to increase the humidity of the surrounding air. And keep the temperature difference in the room not too large within 24 hours, keep it within a certain temperature as much as possible, and the lowest temperature should not be lower than 5-8℃. Control the watering of the Begonia, water it once every 2-3 days in winter, and it can safely and smoothly overwinter.
