How to grow water lotus at home

Lotus is a traditional famous flower in China. Its elegant and beautiful flowers are deeply loved by people. In recent years, many people like to grow hydroponic lotus at home. Here is an introduction to the home cultivation method of water lotus.

1. Choose a container

Hydroponic lotus requires a relatively large container to ensure that the lotus roots have enough space to grow. You can choose a round or square transparent glass container with a diameter of more than 30 cm.

2. Planting method

Purchase or pick healthy lotus seedlings , making sure their root systems are intact and free of pests and diseases. Spread a layer of expanded clay or gravel at the bottom of the container as a substrate to fix the lotus seedlings. Place the lotus seedling in the container and adjust its position so that it remains upright in the water.

3. Add soil and water

After burying the rhizomes in the soil, add just enough water to the container to cover the soil surface but not the leaves. You can use soil specially made for aquatic plants that contains organic matter.

4. Suitable lighting

Place the planting container in full sunlight and ensure that the water lily can get more than 6-8 hours of sunlight. If there is a lack of direct sunlight in the garden, you can choose to plant shade-tolerant water lily varieties.

5. Clean water

Hydroponic lotus has high requirements on water quality and needs to be kept clean. You can use tap water to rinse the inner walls of the container and the lotus roots regularly to remove impurities and microorganisms attached to them.

6. Control the temperature

Hydroponic lotus requires sufficient light for photosynthesis, but too strong sunlight will cause the water temperature to rise and affect the growth of lotus. Therefore, during high temperatures in summer, appropriate shade is needed to keep the water temperature at around 25°C.

7. Supplement nutrients

Water lotus is suitable for growing in a relatively fertile environment. During the process of hydroponic cultivation, provide fertilizer to the lotus once every week to increase the growth rate of the plant. When fertilizing the lotus, you can use fermented liquid fertilizer.

8. Pest control

Pests can easily breed in hydroponic solutions and affect the growth of plants. During the maintenance process, you can raise goldfish in the lotus pond and use the fish to prey on pests. Pour cigarette water into the lotus pond to eliminate pests in the water.
