Leaf cutting method of Haworthia striata

Leaf cutting method of Haworthia striata

Select leaves

Just use healthy leaves, which can be broken off after beheading or transplanting. Try to ensure the integrity of the leaves. After the leaves are removed, they must be dried and sterilized, and must be placed in a cool place to air.

Soil selection

Akadama\Kanuma\Orchid Stone can all be used, vermiculite\perlite can also be used, and even the special soil for succulents sold on the market can be used. If conditions permit, you can use large-particle Akadama soil in the upper and lower layers, and small-particle Akadama + vermiculite + rice husk carbon in the lower layer.

Time Selection

Cuttings of Haworthia striata are generally taken in spring and autumn, because the climatic conditions at this time are more suitable for its growth, the cells are active, and the metabolism is faster, which is the season when leaf cuttings are most likely to survive. Secondly, it is also possible in winter as long as the temperature is suitable, but the germination time will be relatively longer.

Maintenance

Choose a good time, and when the soil and leaves are ready, just place the leaves flat on the soil. The key is how to manage it.

Water thoroughly once a week and spray water once a day to ensure adequate humidity. If you have a small greenhouse at home, it would be even better to ensure sufficient humidity. If you throw the leaves directly onto the soil, they will take root on their own. If you don't have one, then be more diligent and water them more often.

When small roots grow from the leaves, bury the roots in the soil and water them more. Soon, sprouts will grow.

Seedling time

There is no fixed time for this, and there will be differences even for the same variety.

The time for germination varies from one week to several months, and the longest is 9 months. As long as the leaves do not wilt or melt, you must wait patiently.
