How to prune phlox

How to prune phlox

The growing environment of Phlox is very casual, but the pruning requirements are very strict. Pruning at the wrong time will affect its growth or even prevent it from blooming.

How to prune phlox in spring

Spring is the best time for pruning as everything comes back to life.

In spring, when the temperature warms up and new shoots sprout, the branches and leaves can be pruned back. Keep the branches that are in a moderate position and are strong, and cut off all other branches. The main purpose of this kind of vacation is to control the height of the plant, ensure the perfect plant shape, and have lush flowers and leaves.

Note that nutrients must be replenished in time after pruning, and a thin liquid fertilizer should be applied once two weeks later. Water in time after fertilizing and loosen the soil appropriately to ensure good soil permeability. This way the phlox will bloom continuously from summer to autumn.

How to prune Phlox in autumn

In autumn, flowers fade and fruits are harvested.

Phlox usually starts to bloom in August and transplants continue in early October, so the flowering branches should be cut off in time after the flowers fade to reduce nutrient consumption and ensure flowering in the second year. If the leaves are not pruned in time and allowed to fall off naturally, it may lead to nutritional deficiencies in the plants and even induce diseases and insect pests.
