Banyan bonsai maintenance tips for four seasons

Spring maintenance

Repotting

As the temperature rises in spring, the air humidity gradually increases, the metabolism of branches and leaves gradually accelerates, and new leaves begin to sprout. At this time, you need to loosen the soil or change the pot. Loosen the soil once a year on a sunny day. Use a bamboo skewer or spade, being careful not to damage the roots.

As for repotting, choose a suitable pot according to the size of the plant to promote better growth of the plant.

Fertilization

Spring is the season when banyan trees begin to grow rapidly, so it is necessary to apply fertilizer in time. Apply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium granules to the potting soil, cover it with soil, and water it the next day. Don't overwater. Prevent nutrients from flowing out of the bottom of the pot.

Cleaning the blades

After a winter of indoor care, rinse the leaves with clean water in spring to enable better photosynthesis.

Summer maintenance

Watering

Make sure to water it once in the morning and once in the evening every day. You can also water it on rainy days, but be careful not to get wet in the rain. For smaller flower pots, you can cover the surface with a wet cloth to prevent water evaporation, or put a non-porous tray at the bottom of the flower pot to allow the roots to grow better.

Fertilization

In summer, it is even more important to ensure that the banyan bonsai has sufficient nutrients. Apply compound fertilizer every 10 days. If you are not sure about the amount, it is recommended to choose liquid fertilizer. Do not place it directly under the sun after fertilizing.

prune

The temperature is high in summer, and the banyan tree's branches and buds sprout more strongly. Pay attention to timely pruning, or climb and shape the branches and leaves.

Autumn maintenance

Watering

Autumn is windy and dry, and the soil in the pots can easily dry out, so watering is a very important task in autumn. In early autumn, water the plants once in the morning and evening every day, and in late autumn, water them once in the evening. Pay attention to the method when watering. You can water them separately, first water the leaves and branches, and then water the soil in the pot thoroughly.

prune

Autumn is relatively cool and the growth of banyan trees is relatively stable. At this time, you can prune the branches grown in the summer, pinch off the tops and remove the buds to keep the branches and leaves neat.

Winter maintenance

Insulation

The weather is cold in winter, and the banyan tree basically stops growing and does not need fertilizer. Move the plants indoors in time to avoid frost, rain and snow. Control the indoor temperature above 5℃.

Fill Light

Banyan bonsai kept indoors should be placed in a place with strong indoor light. You can use lights to increase the lighting time at night, and pay attention to timely ventilation and air exchange.

Watering

In winter, you should also keep the banyan tree active by wiping its leaves frequently with a damp cloth to keep them clean. Keep the soil dry, water it once every 3 days or so to keep the soil moist. If the leaves turn yellow in winter, excluding pests and diseases, it is basically caused by lack of water, so just replenish water in time.
