How to transplant Echinacea

How to transplant Echinacea

When to transplant echinacea

Generally, seedlings can be transplanted when they grow to about 10 cm.

Preparation before transplanting Echinacea

Before transplanting Echinacea, we need to prepare the land and apply fertilizer, applying 2500-3000 kg of decomposed chicken manure, cow manure and manure per mu.

The seedlings must be sterilized before transplanting to reduce and avoid the spread of pathogens after transplanting. Usually, spray 600 times diluted 75% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder once the day before transplanting, and the seedlings can be transplanted the next day.

The potting soil needs to be a loose, fertile mixed soil and culture soil.

Specific steps for transplanting echinacea

When transplanting seedlings, dig them out together with the roots and soil to minimize damage to the roots of the seedlings to increase the survival rate after transplanting.

When planting, you should choose the number of trees to be planted according to the size of the flowerpot, generally 3-5 trees are best.

Use a shovel to dig a small hole in the pot, put the seedling in and straighten it, then fill it with surrounding soil, compact the soil with your hands, and then water it thoroughly to ensure that the seedling survives.

Management of Echinacea after transplanting

After transplanting, echinacea needs to be pinched once in the early growth stage to promote branching.

Don't water too much. Follow the principle of watering when the soil is dry and wet it once every 10 days or so. Control watering even more when the air humidity is high during the rainy season.

Echinacea grows very fast after transplanting, so nitrogen fertilizer should be added in time. Generally, the first topdressing should be done 20 days after transplanting, using diluted liquid fertilizer to promote growth. Fertilize once a week when flower buds are forming, and sprinkle with water after each fertilization to prevent fertilizer from sticking to the plant.

Cultivation is generally carried out in a greenhouse and placed in a sunny place with good ventilation. The minimum temperature cannot be lower than 10℃, and appropriate shade is needed in summer.
