How to make Nandina domestica bonsai

Bonsai Introduction:

To make Nandina domestica bonsai, you can obtain seedlings through sowing, cuttings, division and other methods. You can also dig up old stumps by the stream. After 2 to 3 years of growth, you can plant them in pots for people to enjoy. Because the stems of Nandina domestica are not easy to be twisted (wrapped with wire to deform the branches), the shaping methods are mostly planting and pruning.

The principles of pruning Nandina domestica are to have some dense and some green, some high and some low, and some clear layers. If you encounter relatively large plants, you can also use single plants to create a landscape. Nandina domestica is mostly planted during the budding period in spring, and it is best to use loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil rich in organic matter. When choosing a pot for Nandina domestica bonsai, a medium-deep or shallow pot, preferably a rectangular or oval one, is recommended.

Bonsai making method:

Single-family

A plant with multiple branches is required to have upright or roughly upright branches. Choose three to four branches sprouting from the root neck for landscaping. One of the branches is the upright branch, which is required to be tall, and a certain amount of space should be left in front of the plant to give people a sense of spaciousness. The bonsai made of this type of Nandina domestica looks like a tree in the wilderness, standing tall and majestic.

Pile head type

Choose a plant with several new branches at the root neck of a dead lump. Take one or two of them as the main branches and place them in the center. Use the rest as supporting branches, which can be straight or slanted. This kind of bonsai has lush green branches and leaves, like a dead tree coming back to life in spring, conveying a vigorous and enterprising spirit.

Elephant form

The key to making this kind of bonsai lies in the selection of materials. Generally, roots and trunks with the general outline of animals are found, and after pruning, they are made into pictographic bonsai resembling deer, monkeys, dogs and other animals.

Stone matching

Nandina domestica stands straight. If there are no branches in the lower middle part (commonly known as missing feet), the overall shape will appear empty and not full. You can add a rock on the right side of the back to make up for the defect.
