How to propagate Platycodon grandiflorum

Propagation by seeds

The seed propagation of Platycodon grandiflorum is generally carried out by direct sowing, and you can choose to sow in winter or spring, but it is better to sow in winter, and the sowing method is generally adopted.
When sowing, mix the seeds with moist fine sand. The ratio is usually 0.3 grams of seeds per pot of soil. Then spread the mixed seeds and soil on the bed surface, sweep it with a broom. If the seeds are not visible, just shake them slightly and they will sprout in the spring of the following year.
Sowing in spring is more complicated, and seeds must be processed. Soak the seeds in 30°C warm water, take them out after eight hours, wrap them in a wet cloth, place them in a place with a temperature of 25°C-30°C, and cover them with wet linen to promote germination. Rinse them with warm water once a day, which takes about five days. After the seeds germinate, they can be sown. The sowing method is the same as that in winter. Be sure to keep the soil moist. Seedlings will emerge in about fifteen days.

Propagation method of seedling transplanting

This method requires first raising seedlings and selecting high-quality Platycodon seedlings for transplanting. The soil should be well-drained, but still kept moist. Select one-year-old straight Platycodon seedlings, grade them according to size, and plant them separately. The best spacing between plants is 6-8 cm. Cover the soil tightly, and the covering soil should be 3 cm higher than the seedlings.

Propagation method of cuttings

Platycodon can also be propagated by cuttings, but the propagation method of cuttings is more complicated and requires high technical requirements. It requires precise control of the moisture content of the base material and special treatment of the cuttings to promote rooting of the cuttings, so that propagation can be carried out by cuttings.
