How to propagate wolfberry

How to propagate wolfberry

Reproduction method

The main method of propagation of wolfberry is seed propagation, but it can also be propagated by cuttings.

Seedling breeding

When raising wolfberry seeds, the first step is to select the seeds. When selecting seeds, you should choose those with large fruits and rosy color. The fruits themselves should be healthy and free of diseases. After selecting, soak the fruits in about 34 degrees for 24 hours. After soaking, take them out and wash them with clean water to remove the pulp and peel, take out the seeds and dry them, then you can sow them.

Secondly, sowing can be done any time except in winter, in a ditch about 3 cm deep. After sowing, the soil needs to be turned over to keep moisture and heat.

Finally, in the seedling stage management, watering is required to ensure the moisture of the soil, which is conducive to the growth of the seedlings. During the growth period, weeding and fertilizing are necessary, and attention should be paid to removing unhealthy weak seedlings, leaving only healthy seedlings. When the seedlings grow to 30 cm, remove the side buds at the bottom of the seedlings, and when they are about 60 cm, kick the top to accelerate the growth of the main trunk.

Cutting propagation

The best time to propagate wolfberry by cuttings is in spring before the plants sprout. First, choose plants with large and full fruits.

Secondly, cut branches that have grown for one year, the diameter should be 0.5 cm and the length should be about 20 cm, soak them and dry them. Then the cuttings are taken.

Finally, when planting the cuttings, they should be inserted into a 20 cm deep trench, with the cuttings only 1 cm above the soil surface. Pay attention to weeding, moisturizing, and regular fertilization and topdressing. When the seeds are 80 cm tall, they can be transplanted.
