Desert Rose Cuttings and Grafting

Desert Rose Cuttings and Grafting

Desert rose cuttings

Desert rose cuttings are usually carried out in summer.

First, select branches that have grown for two years and cut them. Cut the top of the branch into about 9 cm, soak the lower part in water, then take it out and dry it.

Secondly, after drying, plant them in sandy soil, or cut them into sterilized containers, and ensure sufficient sunlight and ventilation.

Finally, the branches inserted into the sand will grow roots within half a month. After rooting, water the plant appropriately. Do not water too much to create a humid environment, which will damage the roots and cause them to rot due to moisture.

Fertilization is required during the root growth period to supply sufficient nutrients. Just use well-rotted compost and spread it appropriately.

Grafting of Desert Rose

Desert rose grafting is carried out in spring and autumn.

First, choose oleander as the rootstock, then cut the branches of the desert rose according to the shape of the rootstock. After cutting, cut off the top of the cut part. Dilute the mucus at the incision of the cut part and soak it in clean water to avoid affecting the grafting.

Secondly, use the cleft grafting method to graft the cut part to the grafting part of the oleander as the rootstock, and tie it with a plastic bag. It can be untied after two months. Of course, the cut desert rose is thinner than the rootstock. Pay attention to the temperature when grafting. It should not exceed 20 degrees, and do not graft on rainy days.

After grafting, cover the plant with a plastic bag and place it in a cool place for maintenance. After new sprouts appear, do not touch the cut when watering to avoid infection and rot.

The grafted Desert Rose has a beautiful appearance, so people generally use the grafting method to cultivate it, planting beautiful Desert Roses to beautify the space and improve the ornamental value.
