How to grow bougainvillea so that the tree is full of flowers

Maintenance and lighting of bougainvillea

Bougainvillea likes light. When growing bougainvillea, it needs to be placed in a place with sufficient light, preferably sunlight. This will promote the healthy growth of the bougainvillea plant, the good growth of flower buds and branches, and the large number of flowers and long flowering period when it blooms, forming a scene of flowers blooming all over the tree.

Watering of Bougainvillea

The so-called watering actually refers to withholding water, which is carried out after mid-August. It mainly controls the amount of watering for Bougainvillea. Watering is generally carried out when the leaves of Bougainvillea are wilting, because watering in this way can make the tender buds of Bougainvillea difficult to grow and maintain their prototype. Watering can be resumed when the flower buds begin to differentiate. Be careful not to water the flowers and leaves during flowering, as this will shorten the flowering period.

Bougainvillea Fertilization

During the growth period of Bougainvillea, in order to make it bloom well, it is necessary to apply more phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer and less nitrogen fertilizer. This can reduce the plant's excessive growth and make the flowers brighter. The flower buds of Bougainvillea grow on new branches. Apply some compound fertilizer before flowering and control water. Apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers once or twice during the flowering period to extend the flowering period and increase the number of flowers, thus creating a scene of flowers blooming all over the tree. Note that timely top dressing is needed after flowering in spring.

Pruning of bougainvillea

During the growing season of Bougainvillea, timely pruning should be carried out, and some overly long or crossed branches should be pruned. This will allow new branches to sprout, which is more beneficial for flowering. The time for pruning is generally in spring and summer. Do not prune after August, as it will affect flowering. Reasonable pruning can increase the amount of flowering and make the tree appear to be full of flowers.
