How to plant potted figs

Pots and soil

Suitable pots for growing potted figs include clay pots, plastic pots, etc. Choose the appropriate pot for planting according to your needs. If the purpose is mainly for viewing and appreciating, you can generally choose a purple clay pot; if the purpose is mainly for producing fruit, you can choose a clay pot.

The potting soil requires a loose, fertile substrate with good air permeability. It can be prepared with loam, sand and decomposed manure.

Potting method

During the dormant period of figs, choose suitable sturdy and healthy fig seedlings with well-developed root systems. First, place 2-3 broken tiles on the seepage holes of the pot, then fill with a layer of coarse sand, then a layer of nutrient soil, place the seedlings in the pot and straighten it. After adding the potting soil, tap the edge of the pot and gently lift the seedlings, and finally add soil and compact it. A few centimeters of soil should be left at the mouth of the pot to serve as a watering port. After planting the seedlings, you need to water them thoroughly once to keep the soil in the pot moist. After the soil in the pot sinks, add some nutrient soil.

Management after potting

Potted figs need to control their wild growth and be pruned in time. There is no need to water too frequently. Wilting leaves indicate that watering is not timely. Secondly, it is necessary to apply fertilizer reasonably, control the amount of fertilizer, and keep the fertilizer concentration low. During the growing period of potted figs, it is generally necessary to apply 1 layer of soaked and fermented bean cake water, animal hoof horn water or urea diluted solution every half a month. In late August, apply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer or bone meal and wood ash once.

Figs are not cold-resistant and need to be moved indoors before winter. You can also wrap the branches with grass to protect them from the cold.

Figs have very few diseases and pests, and basically do not need to be sprayed with pesticides.
