How to repot azalea

Preparation for repotting azalea

As the azalea grows, the plant continues to grow, the root system will become developed, the growth will be restricted, and the fertility of the soil will decrease. so. Rhododendrons generally need to be repotted every 2-3 years.

When repotting azaleas, you need to choose a pot of appropriate size according to the growth of the plant, and disinfect the pot before use. First of all, a drainage layer must be built in the pot.

How to repot azalea

Remove the azalea that needs to be repotted from the pot, slowly take the plant out of the pot, remove one-third of the old soil, and trim the old roots. Then put the azalea back into the new pot, straighten the plant, let the roots slowly stretch out, and slowly add soil. When adding soil, you can press it tightly with your hands. Be careful not to add the soil too high, just keep it about 3cm below the mouth of the pot.

After the azalea is potted, it needs to be watered thoroughly first. You can use the immersion method to water it, so that the entire pot of azalea is immersed in water. Leave it for more than ten minutes and then take it out after the soil is completely moist. After repotting, you can place the azalea in a semi-shaded place for about half a month, increase watering, and then carry out normal maintenance after the seedlings have grown.

Things to note when repotting azalea

When growing azaleas, if you find the following situations, you can change the pot.

There are roots leaking out from the bottom of the flowerpot; when watering, there is water accumulation in the pot and foam in the water, which means the soil is compacted; the plant grows too fast; the soil in the pot bulges upwards; it is time to carry out division propagation.
