What is the correct way to water Sansevieria?

Tiger Piraja is a succulent plant known for its thick leaves and thick taproot. Although care is relatively simple, improper watering or soil problems may still cause the plant to rot or dry out. So how to water the snake plant correctly?

1. Soil configuration

Tiger Piranha prefers sandy soil with good air permeability. Beginners can make soil suitable for growing snake plants by mixing river sand and garden soil in a 1:1 ratio, or adding leaf mold in a 1:1 ratio. Such soil is both breathable and nutritious, which is conducive to root development and new shoot growth.

2. Watering method

On the basis of good soil permeability and water permeability, controlling watering is the key. Spring, summer and autumn are the growing seasons for Sansevieria. Sufficient water should be ensured, and the principle of "water thoroughly when dry" should be followed. You can use a bamboo skewer or wooden stick to insert into the soil to check moisture and water when the skewer is dry.

3. Winter maintenance

The temperature is low in winter and the growth of Sansevieria is slow or stops. If the temperature is not lower than 5 degrees, the snake plant will not be frostbitten. When the temperature is above 10 degrees, especially around 15 degrees, Sansevieria can still grow normally. If the temperature is low in winter, watering should be reduced and the plants should be placed in a place with sufficient light to avoid excessive watering that may cause plant death.

4. Watering the seedlings in winter

For young seedlings, you can water them once a month or every two months in winter, at noon when the temperature is higher, and water them to half the depth of the potting soil to replenish the required moisture without excessive amounts.

5. Daily maintenance

It is easy to care for Sansevieria. Pay attention to controlling watering, ensuring that the soil is breathable and permeable, avoid using pots that are too large, and ensure sufficient light. During the growing season, add multi-element fertilizer 1 to 2 times a month to promote balanced growth of the plants.

In summary, through these methods, Sansevieria can grow healthily, with thick leaves, developed root system, and continuous sprouting of side buds, achieving the effect of bursting the pot.
