How to propagate Oxalis purpurogenum

How to propagate Oxalis purpurogenum

There are generally two most common methods for propagating purple-leafed Oxalis, namely division and sowing.

Division

Let me first introduce to you a method of division that you may not be familiar with. To choose the division method, you must first know what season is suitable for division. Spring and autumn are the most suitable seasons. First, take the plant out of the soil, be careful not to damage the roots, remove most of the old soil, and before planting it in a new soil environment, separate the bulbs slightly, preferably by hand.

If you want to plant the bulbs in pots, it is best to use 3 to 4 bulbs, and don't plant too many in each pot. You can remove excess leaves to reduce the absorption of water by the roots. In addition, you can cut off the buds on its bulb, place it in a sand bed, and place it in an environment of 13 to 18 degrees Celsius, and new plants will quickly grow.

sowing

When choosing sowing, you also need to determine the time, preferably in spring. The seeds of purple-leafed Oxalis are relatively small and difficult to sow by hand. You can choose to sow them indoors in sieved culture soil. Pay attention to maintaining humidity and temperature. You can cover it with a layer of plastic film to maintain humidity. The temperature must be kept above 15 ℃ for germination. The seeds will germinate about 15 days after sowing.

Precautions for propagation of purple leaf oxalis

If you want to choose the division propagation method, especially in the autumn in northern regions, you should pay attention to placing the cut stems and planting them in the sand bed indoors for propagation to ensure that the environmental temperature for germination is suitable, and then move them out of the room when the weather warms up.

Choose a sowing method. During the seedling stage of Oxalis, you should increase the addition of fertilizer and water. In the summer, you should pay attention to shading, avoid direct sunlight, and ensure proper ventilation and humidity in the surrounding environment.
