How to grow blueberries in spring

Remove anti-freezing soil in time

Timely removal of the anti-freeze soil can allow the blueberries to sprout in time and the plants to grow healthily. If the anti-freeze materials are removed too early, the ground temperature is low, and the spring winds are strong, the plant roots cannot absorb water and nutrients, the sprouted flower buds will gradually dry up and die after swelling, and the plant is also susceptible to damage by late frosts. It is not a good idea to remove the leaves too late, because the ground temperature rises rapidly in spring, the temperature and humidity in the soil pile increase, which will cause flower buds to germinate in the soil and may even cause yellowing of young buds and branches. After emerging from the soil, the young stems and leaves cannot withstand wind and sun.

Timely watering

The weather is dry and windy in spring. After the anti-freeze soil is removed, it is the critical period for blueberries to sprout and turn green. Watering the plants with sufficient water in time can not only ensure the normal germination and healthy growth of blueberries, but also prevent the blueberry branches from drying out.

Proper tree pruning

For 2-3 year old blueberry saplings, removing all flower buds during pruning will help promote root development, expand the crown and increase the number of branches, laying a good foundation for early high yields.

For 4-5 year old young trees, the focus is on expanding the crown, thinning out flowers and fruits appropriately, and removing damaged and diseased branches.

Since the interior of blueberry trees over 6-7 years old is often easily shaded, the main purpose of pruning at this time is to improve light conditions, cut off dense branches, overlapping branches, crossed branches, thin branches and diseased branches, and cut them back and renew them in time. Weak branches can be pruned by removing the flower buds, which can promote their healthy growth.
