Cultivation methods and precautions for greenhouse lilies

Lily is a flower that many people like. White lilies are pure and beautiful, while scented lilies are pink and very beautiful. Here are some tips on growing lilies in greenhouses .

1. Improve soil

Lilies have a well-developed root system and require deep, loose soil with good drainage and air permeability, and slightly acidic or sandy loam. The suitable pH value for Asiatic lilies is 6 to 7, and the suitable pH value for Oriental lilies is 5.5 to 6.5. Improve the soil by adding appropriate amounts of peat soil, fine sand and fermented sheep manure. Slightly acidic soil with good drainage is preferred.

2. Field preparation

Deeply till the soil to a depth of about 30 cm, add peat soil and fermented sheep manure, break it up and rake it flat to make a 1.0 m flat bed, fill it with water and wait for planting.

3. Planting method

Dig 4 rows, with a depth of 10 to 15 cm, plant spacing of 10 to 15 cm, and row spacing of 20 cm, depending on the size of the bulbs. There are 35 to 40 bulbs per square meter of Oriental lily, depending on the size of the bulbs. When planting, the buds should be planted straight. If the buds are too long, more than 5 cm, the root recovery period will be long and the buds and new roots will be easily damaged.

4. Temperature management

The optimal temperature for lilies from sowing to seedling stage is 8-12℃, 15-25℃ during the growth period and 20-28℃ during the maturity period. Due to different geographical locations, the highest and lowest temperatures are different in different places. Cooling measures should be adopted in high temperature seasons, such as shading nets and sprinkler irrigation.

5. Water and fertilizer management

After the lilies sprout and emerge from the soil, no fertilizer is needed. Just water them thoroughly once. After they grow to about 15 cm, high-phosphorus fertilizer can be applied to add nutrition, promote root development, and make the stems thick to achieve the effect of seedling squatting. Increase the amount of fertilizer such as calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate, magnesium nitrate, urea and other multi-element organic fertilizers .

6. Lighting management

Light is extremely important for Oriental lilies in autumn and winter. Shade nets should be used to reduce soil moisture. When there is insufficient light in winter during the normal growing period, lighting should be used to extend the lighting time. Supplement light for 4 to 6 hours at night to increase the total light intensity of the day to 16 hours to enhance the illumination of Oriental lilies. The plastic film of the greenhouse should be cleaned regularly to enhance light transmittance.

7. Ventilation facilities

In winter, greenhouses are tightly closed and poorly ventilated. The greenhouse air is not circulating and should be ventilated frequently. Generally, the skylight or plastic film should be opened at 10 to 11 o'clock for ventilation. The ventilation time should also be determined in different regions according to the temperature difference in the greenhouse.

8. Notes

In winter, lilies have little ventilation in the greenhouse and their stems are weak, so supports should be set up when the plants reach 60 to 80 cm. If supports are not set up in time, the plants are prone to lodging. Do not water or fertilize Oriental lilies within 10 days before harvesting. Increase the light and temperature appropriately to ensure the quality of the lilies. Generally, they are harvested when the first and second buds are fully expanded and colored.
