Seed propagation of Belamcanda chinensis

Seed propagation of Belamcanda chinensis

Seed collection

Normally, we will do this step in late September or early October. When the husk turns yellow and is about to open, remove the husk and stalk together and place them in a place with good air circulation to dry. After completion, thresh again.

Germination treatment

Be careful not to expose the seeds to the sun, otherwise the seed coat will become very hard. Because its seeds have the property of late maturing, the collected seeds must be further processed. We need to place them in a place with low temperature and high humidity and wait for them to germinate. The seeds sown in spring must be treated with low temperatures in order to grow. The seeds sown in autumn are generally mixed with moist sand and buried in the ground to keep moist. They should then be dug out in the spring of the following year and soaked in warm water at 40 to 50 degrees for a day before they can be sown.

Sowing method

The first is field broadcasting, which takes place around Qingming Festival or in September or October. The first step is to dig trenches and determine the holes. The depth of the trenches is 5cm and the bottom of the trenches is required to be loose and flat. Next, fill the hole with soil and fertilizer, covering it with about two centimeters of fine soil. At this time, you can sow the seeds, five or six seeds will be enough. After completion, we still need to fill and compact the soil, and ensure the temperature and humidity. After waiting for about twenty days, seedlings will grow.

The second method is warming seedling cultivation. This method is mainly to prolong its growth period. We can use plastic arch sheds to increase the temperature. Around early or mid-January, sow the seeds and cover them with fine soil. Sprinkle warm water once in the morning and evening every day, and seedlings will grow in about a week. At this time, we still cannot ignore it and must pay attention to its water and fertilizer.
