How to propagate white taro by cuttings

1. Collection of spikelets

The collection of cuttings for propagation is generally after the leaves fall in autumn, and the dormancy period begins in spring. It should also be combined with the winter pruning of the tree. Generally, one-year-old healthy branches are selected, and then they are fully lignified and free of disease.

2. Storage of cuttings

In the spring, hardwood cuttings need to be stored for the winter. The storage method is generally: cut the branches into a length of about 15 cm, choose a shady place with higher terrain and good drainage to start digging trenches. Generally, the trench width is 1 meter and the depth is 60 to 80 cm. The length depends on the number of cuttings. First, spread a 5-cm thick layer of wet sand at the bottom of the ditch, then bundle the cut cuttings into bundles of 50 branches, and then place them in layers in the ditch. When the cuttings are 20 cm from the ground, fill them with wet sand, then cover them with a layer of soil, and insert a handful of grass in the middle to allow ventilation.

3. Cuttings processing

In order to increase the survival rate of cuttings, the cuttings are generally soaked in some running water 6 to 8 days before cuttings. If the water is stagnant, the water must be changed. If there are obviously irregular objects at the incision, do another cutting. You can also soak some of this solution for 24 hours, which can increase the chances of survival of the cuttings.

4. Cutting technology

Before grafting, the land must be carefully prepared and then sufficient fertilizer should be applied to make the soil looser and provide more moisture.

5. Cutting time

Cuttings are usually taken in spring from March to April, because the soil has begun to melt at this time and the temperature is more suitable. The cuttings of young branches usually start in June and can be planted at any time.
