Can clematis bloom in winter?

Tip 1. Medium and Pots

The most critical step in growing clematis is to ensure that the roots are well ventilated and water-permeable, so it is particularly important to prepare the medium well. As long as the medium is well prepared, you are halfway to success, and you don’t need to worry too much about the rest of the care. It is recommended to mix peat with a part of perlite, with a ratio of about 6:1, which can enhance water permeability and air permeability.

The most important thing to consider when choosing a flower pot is its air permeability. A gallon pot is a good choice because it has many small holes around it and its air permeability meets the standards. Potted clematis should be placed indoors, but in a place with slightly lower temperature, such as a balcony, corridor, etc.

If some friends choose to plant it in the ground, don’t be too nervous. You can make the soil around the roots thicker and pay attention to protecting the root neck.

Tip 2. Temperature

Although our clematis is cold-resistant, we should not treat it too badly. Keep the temperature between 0 and 10 degrees and the clematis will be safe. In colder areas, you can also use plastic or foam to block the cold of the small iron.

Tip 3: Watering

In winter, the watering principles for clematis are the same as in other seasons, just follow the principle of "don't water unless the plant is dry".

The method is to stick your finger 4 to 5 cm into the soil, water it if it feels dry, and no need to water it if it feels dry. Before freezing, water thoroughly once, and then there is no need to water again until spring.

Tip 4. Fertilization

Clematis is not afraid of "fertilizer". If you want Clematis to bloom in large quantities, you need to give it enough fertilizer. Therefore, it is very important to fertilize Clematis in winter! Remove some of the topsoil and add new peat mixed with a lot of organic fertilizer and ashes. The height of this new peat should reach 2 to 5 cm. This treatment method is not only for applying fertilizer well, it also has an important function of getting rid of the fungi and pests remaining in the soil.

I hope the above methods can help everyone and make the small iron bloom with brilliant colors!
