How to trim the palace lantern Kalanchoe

How to trim the palace lantern Kalanchoe

1. Time for pruning

When pruning it, not any time is fine. Many flowers need to be determined according to the time. Blind pruning will cause its growth to stop or even die, so the time of pruning is very important. The pruning of the palace lantern kalanchoe usually starts after the Spring Festival, cutting off some old ones and leaving new ones. In addition, you can no longer prune it after the end of September, because it has begun to gestate and prepare to bloom. If you trim it forcibly, you may accidentally trim off its flower buds and affect its normal flowering.

2. Pruning methods

There are also certain methods and techniques when pruning. Generally, we cut off the second pair of leaves and the flower branch below the flower branch together. After a period of time, new buds will grow and it will be able to bloom again. You can also start major pruning after the flowers fade every year. Before July, you only need to leave about 3 cm of branches, and the rest can be completely cut off, and you don't even need to leave any leaves. The last thing to remember is that when pruning, you should change the pot and apply fertilizer. The cut branches can also be used for planting or hydroponics. Soon after, it will grow many new shoots again, and then you can keep the distance between the plants between 10 and 15 cm. If it exceeds the distance, just pick them off.

3. Number of pruning times

If you want to control the shape of the old plant well, you can consider pruning it twice. The first time is mainly to cut off its branches, and then keep about 5 to 10 centimeters. Then you can repeat it once when it grows new branches. This can increase its branch germination and it will bloom more. However, you cannot cut too much at one time, and you also have to consider the photosynthesis of the leaves. Cutting too much may kill it.
