How to propagate begonia

How to propagate begonia

Seed propagation

Time selection: This method is generally carried out in early spring or autumn when the temperature is not very high.

Specific method: Because the seeds of this plant are very small, they require finesse when sowing. Before we start sowing, we first have to sterilize the soil through high temperature. After disinfection, sprinkle the seeds into the fine soil in the pot (no need to cover with a layer of soil), then flatten it, and then immerse the pot in water. The bottom of the pot can be moistened by water. Another thing that needs to be controlled is the temperature. In an environment of around 20 degrees Celsius, the seeds will germinate in about a week to ten days. When two true leaves appear, it is time to transplant the seedlings.

Cutting propagation

Time selection: This method is flexible and can be carried out throughout the year, but it is most suitable in spring and autumn. Because of the high temperature and heavy rain in summer, the cuttings are easy to rot; the temperature is too low in winter.

Specific method: Choose sturdier branches with a length of about eight to ten centimeters. Pick most of the leaves and place them in the prepared substrate. Be sure to keep it moist and provide appropriate shade. Wait about fifteen to twenty days for it to take root. After the roots grow, you can expose them to sunlight. When the roots are two to three centimeters long, they can be potted.

Propagation by division

Time selection: This method is suitable for repotting in early spring.

Specific method: Select a mother plant with good growth, and then cut it into several parts from the root. Be sure to apply disinfectant on the cut to prevent rot. Next, plant several small plants in pots with enough base fertilizer. It should be noted that you should not over-water.
