How to grow Desert Rose in winter

How to grow Desert Rose in winter

1. Lighting

The desert rose is native to East Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula. Therefore, it likes to grow in an environment with high temperature, dry climate and plenty of sunshine. Desert rose is afraid of cold, so it is best to place it indoors in winter, behind a window where it can get sunlight, and keep it dry.

2. Watering

Desert rose is very drought-resistant, so you can't water it too much every time you water it. If you water it too much, its roots will rot. The temperature is relatively low in winter, so it is necessary to control watering properly. Watering once a week is sufficient. Also pay attention to keeping the soil dry to promote the growth of desert rose.

3. Soil

Due to its growing conditions, it also has certain requirements for soil quality. Sandy soil is preferred because it has good drainage. We can add some small gravel or river sand to its substrate during its vigorous growth period, which will facilitate drainage. A mixture of leaf mold and fertile, loose sand is best.

4. Fertilization

To fertilize the desert rose, normally it is enough to apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers once a month. But in autumn and winter it will enter a dormant period, when its growth is very slow or even stops. Therefore, no fertilizer is needed in autumn and winter.

5. Pruning

Pruning of desert rose is also very important. If you do not pay attention to pruning it and let it grow freely, it will easily lose its ornamental value. The best time to prune it is after the flowering period. Always remember that the more branches it has, the more flowers it will produce. If you want it to bloom more flowers, you need to find a way to keep more branches.
