How to propagate Aloe vera

How to propagate Aloe vera

1. Planting seeds

Aloe vera can be propagated by sowing. First, we wait until it blooms, pick out the mature seeds, dry them slightly, and then sow them in the right season. Of course, before sowing, we can also soak the seeds in some solutions that are easier to root, and then sow them in the prepared pots. This will make it easier to survive. As long as it is properly maintained, it won’t take long for the seeds to sprout and grow into seedlings.

2. Cutting propagation

This method is to take some of the more substantial main stems or side branches when the aloe vera is growing very well and use them as cuttings for propagation. When cutting, we must ensure that the wound of the aloe vera is dry to avoid infection. Wait until it takes root before watering it. Before that, you can spray some mist into the potting soil to keep it moist. In addition, if you treat it with a rooting agent and let it air dry before taking cuttings, it will be easier for it to survive. From this it can be seen that although it can be propagated in this way, the leaves of aloe vera cannot survive, and all reproduction must come from its branches as the source of reproduction.

3. Cuttings

We can find some branches growing from its stems or main stems, preferably with 4 to 6 leaves and 6 to 10 cm in height, to use as its cuttings. The top of the main stem can also be cut off 10 to 15 cm as its cuttings. After cuttings are cut, you cannot start planting them immediately, otherwise the cut wound will start to rot. Generally, you should leave them for 3 to 5 days after cutting, and then plant them after the cut is fully dried. In addition, the size of the cuttings also has a certain relationship with its rooting. Generally, if you use 6 to 10 cm branches for cuttings, the rooting time will be shorter.
