How to plant cosmos seeds

How to plant cosmos seeds

1. Sowing time

This plant prefers a hot and dry environment, so it is usually planted in the summer when there is plenty of sunlight.

2. Preliminary Processing

1. Soak the seeds in warm water for seven or eight hours to allow the seeds to fully absorb water and expand. Even after becoming larger, the particles are still very small.

2. Sterilize the prepared culture matrix, which can be sterilized at high temperature.

3. Sowing Method

1. Choose a pot with good air permeability and drainage, and put the sterilized substrate in it. Because the seeds are very small, you can press the seeds with your fingers when sowing or use tweezers to pick up the seeds one by one and place them on the culture medium. If you use tweezers, pay attention to the strength and do not damage the seeds. After placing it, cover the surface with a layer of soil that is the same as the sowing medium, about one centimeter thick.

2. Prepare a large basin, place the flower pot in the basin, and pour water into the large basin until the water level reaches two-thirds of the flower pot. Let it sit for a few minutes until the water from the large pot has soaked the soil in the pot, then you can take it out.

3. Note: If the seeds are relatively large, place them directly into the soil and sow them at a distance of 3 cm. Cover with soil after sowing, and the thickness should be two or three times that of the seeds. Use a sprinkler or watering can to water to prevent the seeds from being washed away.

4. Pay attention to the dryness and wetness of the soil. When it becomes dry, add water in time to keep it moist.

5. Cover it with a film to retain moisture and temperature.

4. Post-maintenance

1. When seeds grow into seedlings, remove the film in time to avoid burns caused by high temperatures. After removing the film, place the flower pot in a sunny place. This step is best done in the evening or early morning. The midday sun is too strong and the seedlings may be burned.

2. When seeds sprout, you can see their growth conditions. If the seeds are too densely spaced, thinning should be done. Diseased or poorly growing ones can be removed to leave space for healthy seedlings. When the seedlings have three leaves, they can be repotted.
