How to plant red tassel flower seeds

Seed acquisition and storage

The flowering period of the red tassel flower is from August to September, and the fruiting period is from October to November.

Its fruit is a pod that, when ripe, splits open automatically along a seam from top to base. At this point it will reveal its seeds, which can be collected.

Its seeds are brown, oblong, about 7~10mm long and about 4mm wide. After collection, the seeds that are not well developed can be removed first.

If the indoor temperature is suitable, you can sow them immediately after harvesting. If the conditions are not met and you cannot sow them in time, you need to carefully preserve the seeds and sow them in the early spring of the following year.

The seeds can be stored in a dry storage method, that is, the collected seeds are buried in the soil and stored indoors at 0~4℃. Be careful to keep the room dry, otherwise the dormancy of the seeds will be broken.

Choice of substrate

Choosing a suitable substrate can make the cultivation of red tassel flower more efficient.

It is suitable for growing on an acidic substrate with high fertility and certain drainage capacity.

Sufficient fertility can support the healthy growth of its young plants, while sufficient drainage capacity can ensure that no water accumulates in the substrate and affects the roots of seeds or plants.

Sowing method

When sowing in pots, you must first choose a suitable flower pot with moderate depth, not too deep.

Secondly, you need to use a flowerpot to hold the prepared substrate. Don’t fill it too full. Add the substrate to a distance of 5 to 6 cm from the mouth of the pot and you don’t need to add any more.

Sprinkle the seeds gently on the soil surface, being careful not to use too much force to avoid damaging the seeds. You need to be careful not to plant the seeds too close together, or they may not have enough room to grow.

Then cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil so that the seeds are completely submerged in the substrate. Use a sprinkler to water the plant to ensure that the substrate does not dry out, making it easier for it to germinate.

Post-production care

5 to 7 days after sowing, we can see young sprouts breaking through the soil. We need to take care of them regularly to make them grow better.

The red tassel flower likes moisture, so it should be watered in time. Do not wait until the substrate in the pot is completely dry before watering. During the hot summer season, it is also necessary to spray some water on the air and ground around the plants.

It does not require much fertilizer, once a month is enough.

You should also pay attention to timely pruning of branches and leaves and prevention of insects and diseases, so that you can grow a very beautiful pot of red tassel flower.
