How to plant asparagus fern seeds

How to plant asparagus fern seeds

1. Obtaining seeds

When it comes to obtaining its seeds, we can get it in two ways. One way is to buy ready-made ones and plant them directly, and the other way is to harvest them yourself. If you harvest it yourself, remember to wait until the fruit is fully ripe before picking it. Generally, its fruits mature one after another in winter, and when the color of the fruits turns purple-black, we can pick them. After picking, first peel off the skin of the fruits and take out the seeds, then wash the seeds and you can plant them.

2. Sowing medium

You are quite free when choosing the medium for sowing. You can use some peat for sowing, or you can use garden soil plus some honeycomb coal, all of which are acceptable. However, I still recommend that when choosing a medium, try to choose one that is breathable and has good drainage, as this is most in line with its growth needs.

3. Planting seeds

When planting it, it is not suitable to plant it too deep. Just sprinkle it evenly on the surface of the medium, and then cover it with another layer. The thickness of the soil should not be too thick, just enough so that the seeds cannot be seen. Later, in order to better moisturize it, we can find a piece of glass to cover it. If there is no glass, we can also cover it with a film. After covering it, you can place it in a sunny place, and it is best to keep the temperature above 18 degrees. As for the time when it will germinate, this is uncertain. Sometimes they will germinate after 2 weeks, but sometimes it takes 3 to 4 weeks to germinate, so we must be patient enough to wait.

4. Post-maintenance

After the seeds germinate, we can remove the glass or film on top and then carry out normal maintenance. When the seedlings are 3 to 4 centimeters high, we can transplant them. After transplanting, we must water them reasonably and not too frequently, otherwise it will easily cause damage to the seedlings. In addition, in order to make it grow faster, we must also apply some thin fertilizer.
