What to do after Michelia blooms

What to do after Michelia blooms

1. Specific period

The specific flowering period of this plant is from March to May, so after May it is the end of its flowering period.

2. Specific practices

(1) Fertilization: During the flowering period, the plants will consume a lot of stored nutrients. However, after blooming, it will enter a stage of more vigorous growth. So, after flowering, we'd better supplement it. Generally speaking, after flowering, fertilizers rich in P and K elements need to be applied. Doing so is not only beneficial for subsequent growth and development, but also for the next flowering.

(2) Pruning: This is a very important step. If you are not careful, the plants are likely to suffer from diseases and pests. Therefore, we need to cut off its withered and diseased branches. In addition, branches that are too long also need to be cut off. By doing so, the ventilation between the branches will increase, and the area receiving light will also increase, which will be more conducive to flowering in the second year. Also, for beautification purposes, it can be trimmed according to the overall shape. However, please note that the pruning wounds need to be treated with some medicine.

(3) Loosening the soil and weeding: If the soil is clumping, it is likely to cause difficulty for the roots of the plants to breathe. So, we need to loosen the soil. Additionally, surrounding weeds may rob the plant of nutrients, so they need to be removed.

(4) Prevention and control of diseases and pests: The period after the plant blooms is a good time to prevent diseases and pests. If found, be sure to use medicine to prevent and control it in time.
