How to grow Clerodendrum thomsoniae and make it bloom more

How to grow Clerodendrum thomsoniae and make it bloom more

1. Pruning

If you want it to grow faster, you should prune it frequently, otherwise it will not bloom. Its flowering period lasts for a very long time. If you take good care of it, it can even bloom all year round. After its flowers fade, you need to remove the remaining flowers and then there is no need to prune it. Just give it plenty of water and fertilizer and it will continue to grow and bloom.

2. Water

During its growth period, you need to water it enough, and the flowerpot and soil should be kept moist. When the flowers are blooming, you cannot sprinkle too much water on it, and do not splash water on the flowers when watering. In winter, it will stop growing and go dormant, so you can stop watering it. Watering should be controlled, otherwise the branches will grow too fast and affect the blooming of the flowers.

3. Lighting

Give it enough sunlight. If it lacks sunlight, it will only grow branches and the leaves will turn yellow and fall off. In the hot summer season, it needs to be shaded and not exposed to direct sunlight. You can place it in a windy area in the house and sprinkle water around it and its leaves frequently to increase the humidity. It needs to grow in an environment of 18-24 degrees. If it exceeds 30 degrees, it will grow normally as long as there is enough water. If winter comes, you must prepare an environment that is no lower than 8 degrees. If it is below 5 degrees, you will be frozen. In mild cases, the leaves will fall, and in severe cases, the stems will wither.

4. Fertilization

During its growth period, do not apply too much nitrogen fertilizer, and focus on phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, such as bean cake fertilizer. When it is blooming, add organic fertilizer once every seven days. It needs to be well-rotted and the concentration only needs to be 20%. You can also add a little ferrous sulfate to it.

5. Pinching

In April, you need to pinch the top of the plant and remove the dead branches and yellow leaves. This can help the flower buds grow and produce flower buds in advance, so that it can bloom in early May. Flowers will generally wither in 25 days, so they need to be removed and fertilized to give the next generation of flowers a chance to bloom. You can also buy special nutrient solution and spray it on the branches to promote flowering.
